Psychosocial Approach to Psychotherapy

The psychosocial approach to psychotherapy involves  understanding a person's internal psychological processes (as a result of hereditary and environment, as well as how these processes interact with one's current social and physical conditions (relationships, support system, employment, living situation, health).  This approach stresses the value of the individual and his or her own right to self-determination, that is, the right to make one's own decisions.  The psychosocial approach aims to remove obstacles that are getting in the way of self-fulfillment and to help one realize their potential and aspirations.
